The father of 17-year-old soccer star Lamine Yamal was stabbed in a parking lot outside of Barcelona, according to multiple reports in Spain. His father, Mounir Nasraoui, was taken to the Trias i Pujol University Hospital with multiple injuries, per reports.
Nasraoui’s condition is reportedly serious but stable. Local residents said that Nasraoui was confronted by some individuals while walking his dog prior to the attack, according to the newspaper La Vanguardia. Spanish news agency EFE and La Vanguardia say the incident took place in the Rocafonda neighborhood about 19 miles outside of Barcelona, according to ESPN.
Barcelona and Yamal will kick off their season on Aug. 17 in an away trip to Valencia. Yamal helped Spain win the European Championship this summer. His status for this weekend’s game is unclear.
Yamal, one of the world’s very best talents, is the youngest player to start a La Liga game, the youngest La Liga goalscorer and assister, the youngest starter and assister in Champions League history, and the youngest player to ever make 10 Champions League appearances among other achievements. With Spain, Yamal also became the youngest player to ever feature in every knockout stage of the tournament where he scored one goal and assisted four more.
