The first-ever NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup final will be a meeting of top-table NWSL teams. Kansas City Current and NJ/NY Gotham FC will face off at Toyota Field in San Antonio, TX on Friday. The inaugural tournament featured all 14 NWSL clubs and the top six ranked LIGA MX Femenil teams in group stage rounds held during the Olympic break. Now just two teams remain, and with NWSL playoffs around the corner, there’s a chance for some drama.
Fans can watch the Summer Cup final on CBS Sports Network and Paramount+ with JP Dellacamera, Jill Loyden, and Jenny Chiu on the broadcast.

How they got here
Gotham FC: They won the top of the group with 8 points over Chicago Red Stars, Washington Spirit, and Chiva Femenil. During their semifinal against Angel City FC, Delanie Sheehan delivered the lone game winning goal. The squad maintained a stingy defensive effort with Cassie Miller handling goalkeeping responsibilities despite consistent set piece efforts from Angel City.
The coaching staff will have to get creative with availability, and they already have, signing seven players to one-game contracts in light of so many players off on international duty.
Kansas City Current: They had a flawless group winning performance with three wins against Houston Dash, Tigres Femenil, and Pachuca Femenil. They remain undefeated in the Summer Cup after their 2-0 win against North Carolina Courage in the semifinal. The match was a turning point for the squad’s defense with defender Alana Cook’s arrival to the Current during the summer transfer window.
They’ll be without starters Nichelle Prince (Canada) and Hailie Mace (USA) who are off on international duty, but have the golden boot leader Temwa Chawinga who is always a difficult mark for defenders.
Prediction
There will be key players missing for both sides of the pitch with the final affected by the international window, but that just means the game really can in any direction. Pick: Kansas City Current 2, NJ/NY Gotham FC 1
