As global tourism returns to pre-pandemic levels, the travel retail giant is continuing its geographic expansion with its entry into Tunisia. Avolta (formerly known as Dufry) has won a contract to open 15 duty free shops in five of the country’s main airports: Tunis-Carthage International Airport, Djerba–Zarzis International Airport, Sfax-Thyna International Airport, Tozeur–Nefta International Airport and Tabarka–Aïn Draham International Airport, accounting for nearly 80% of the country’s air traffic.
The new stores will offer the full range of duty-free categories, including perfumes and cosmetics, liquor, food and confectionery. Avolta will also introduce its targeted concepts, such as Mind, Body & Soul and Haute Parfumerie.
“With Tunisia, we are entering one of the most important duty-free markets in Africa while building our presence in the main tourist destinations bordering the Mediterranean Sea,” commented Luis Marin, President & CEO of Avolta’s Europe, Middle East & Africa Region. “We are committed to bringing together international concepts with local flavours and specialties, delivering a strong sense of place.”
Avolta is a travel retail specialist, operating duty free, food, beverages and convenience stores across airports, motorways, cruises and railways under brands such as Autogrill, Colombian Emeralds International, Dufry, Duty Free Shop, Hudson or World Duty Free. Avolta operates in more than 1,000 locations across 73 countries.
