Armie Hammer got a vasectomy for his birthday — paid for by his mom.
The Call Me by Your Name actor made the revelation on the Monday, November 11, episode of his new “Armie HammerTime Podcast” during the second of a two-part interview with his mom, Dru Hammer.
“Let’s talk about what I gave you for your birthday this year,” Dru said during their conversation, prompting mother and son to reveal how Hammer ended up getting a medical procedure for his 38th birthday in August.
“I call Armie and I go, ‘What would you like for your birthday this year?’ He was like, “I don’t know. Maybe money. Whatever.’ And I was like, ‘I believe I’m going to give you a vasectomy,’” Dru recalled.
Hammer then took over the story, detailing his strange encounter at the doctor’s office where he got the procedure. (Hammer has two children, Harper, 9, and Ford, 7, with his ex-wife, Elizabeth Chambers.)
“I go to a doctor’s office and I go, ‘I’m here to schedule a vasectomy,’” Hammer said, explaining that he was then asked to fill out various paperwork and have a consultation with a doctor.
“He was like, ‘Are you sure you wanna do this?’ I’m like, ‘I have two beautiful kids. I don’t want any more kids. I’m good to go,’” Hammer continued. “They try to talk you out of it. I’m like, ‘You’re not going to talk me out of it. I’m done. I’m good.’”
Hammer said after consulting with the doctor, he went to see the receptionist to pay for the procedure, which led to an awkward exchange.
“The receptionist was like, ‘Are you gonna be putting this on insurance?’” he said. “I go, ‘Actually, I don’t have insurance.’ She goes, ‘What?’ I go, ‘Yeah, I haven’t had insurance for years.’ She was like, ‘Oh, OK. Are you going to be putting it on a credit card?’ And I go, ‘My credit cards won’t cover this. My mother’s going to be calling you and she’s going to be paying for it.’”
“And she was looking down and she [looks up] and goes, ‘What?’ And I go, ‘Yes, my mother gave me this as a birthday present,’” Hammer continued. “It was just one of those things … you could tell she was hearing something and like [thinks], ‘I’ve never heard… what are you talking about?’ So yeah, my mom got me a vasectomy for my birthday.”
Explaining why she offered her son a vasectomy, Dru said that as a Catholic, she would prefer that her son didn’t have sex outside of marriage but she knows “that isn’t going to happen.”
“I know there are these young girls that would love to have Armie Hammer’s baby,” Dru said of the vasectomy, prompting Hammer to respond, “Maybe when I had money they would!”
The actor’s mom said she is sure that Hammer will have a Hollywood comeback and make money again. “I love that you lived up to your wrongdoings when you were on Piers Morgan,” Dru told her son.
Hammer and his mom also talked about the 2021 sexual abuse and cannibalism allegations that effectively ended his acting career. Hammer vehemently denied the claims against him and said his sexual encounters were consensual. (The Los Angeles police department opened an investigation into the claims against Hammer in March 2021, but the case was closed in May 2023 and Hammer was not charged.)
“I say this all the time: ‘My son was not criminally wrong,’” Dru said on the podcast. “If there was a smidgeon of things that were wrong that you did, as far as a rape accusation, they would have nailed you.”
Dru added, “I even called you one time. I was like, ‘Let me just get this straight.’ I go, ‘Are there any women out there with limbs or ribs missing?’ That’s what I want to know as a mother. Because end of conversation if there are limbs or ribs missing.”
“I think you learned not to put stupid things in DMs,” Dru told her son, referring to unverified sexually explicit messages detailing sexual fantasies that were attributed to Hammer at the time. “No one was eaten, no one was raped, but you were stupid.”
Hammer agreed, “I was definitely stupid.”
