Oklahoma State vs. Utah prediction, odds: 2024 college football Week 4 picks from proven computer model

The No. 14 Oklahoma State Cowboys and No. 12 Utah Utes square off in just one of two matchups of two top 15 teams on the Week 4 college football schedule. Both teams enter at 3-0 and each team scored more than 35 points in their victories last week. Utah is playing in its first official Big 12 conference game after joining the conference this academic year following a hectic offseason of college realignments. Oklahoma State has been one of the better teams in the Big 12 over the last few seasons and reached the Big 12 Championship Game last year before falling to Texas, 49-21.

The top-15 matchup is scheduled to kick off from Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. It will be the first matchup against a ranked opponent for either team this season. Why you should back Utah

Despite suffering significant injuries at nearly every position last season, including playing without starting quarterback Cameron Rising (knee) for the entire season after an injury he suffered in the Rose Bowl the year before, Utah went 8-5 for its 10th straight winning season after winning 10 games in back to back seasons. Rising being the quarterback may be the most significant injury, but Utah also lost key starters in tight end Brant Kuithe, wide receiver Mycah Pittman, linebacker Lander Barton, running back Micah Bernard, and edge rusher Logan Fano for multiple weeks.

All those players are back this season, but Rising (hand) is questionable after missing last week. Reports indicate he’s expected to play, but it’s an injury to monitor leading up to the contest. Bernard is the team’s leading rusher with 274 yards and a touchdown on 6.7 yards per carry and Kuithe is second in receiving yards (142) while leading the team with three touchdown receptions. If Rising is active and health is back on their side, the Utes could record their second road victory over a ranked opponent in as many seasons on Saturday. See which team to pick here.

Why you should back Oklahoma State

Oklahoma State ranks 11th in college football in scoring at 42 points per game. The Cowboys have had an elite aerial attack this season, entering the week ranking third in college football in passing yards at 378.5 yards per game. Alan Bowman, in his seventh college season, returned as Oklahoma State’s starting quarterback this season after throwing for 3,460 yards and 15 touchdowns with 14 interceptions last season. Bowman is completing 67% of his passes for 967 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions over the first three games of the season. The 24-year-old completed 24 of 31 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns last week.

Oklahoma State is 22-2 at home since the start of the 2021 season with one of the best home-field advantages in college football. The Cowboys went 6-0 at home against ranked opponents during that span, so it wasn’t just defeating teams they were superior to. Mike Gundy enters his 20th season as Oklahoma State head coach and has led the Cowboys to a winning record in each season with the program after his first year and is coming off a 10-4 campaign last year. Oklahoma State has risen from the preseason No. 17 team with its 3-0 start and that climb has the potential to reach into the top 10 teams in the country. See which team to pick here.
