Korova Destroyed by Fire
Korova on Hope Street has been gutted by a fire that started in Case Forman Kelly Solicitors upstairs in the early hours of Saturday Morning.
The blaze needed 60 fire-fighters and 12 fire engines to put out. The building was empty at the time, and nobody was hurt. It is unknown how the fire started, but Merseyside Fire and Rescue services said it was too early to tell if the blaze was suspicious. However it is thought that an electrical fault is most likely to blame.
The fire caused the roof and second floor to collapse, and the bar on the ground floor and basement has suffered massive water damage. Fortunately the fire service managed to stop the flames spreading to nearby historic buildings, such as the Philharmonic Pub.
Chris Tyler, Korova’s promotions and bookings manager told the Liverpool Daily Post, “There is basically loads of water inside and it is going to take a good number of months before it is serviceable again.
“But we are planning to rise from the ashes, so to speak, and reopen when it is sorted.”
The bar could be closed for up to six months, causing chaos for upcoming gigs. Promoters are frantically trying to rearrange gigs at nearby venues, with Sound City gigs being moved elsewhere in the city. PlayDub has been moved to the Loft at the Masque for the time being, but it is still unknown where other nights and gigs will be moved to, or if they will be cancelled, but many are expected to move to the Masque or the Kazimier.
