Survive As A Student: When is it not appropriate to say Happy New Year anymore?
The second semester always seems to be the hardest one to readjust to. Having to haul your pickled body from the sofa and start taking life a little more seriously again. As well as having to go to lectures (oh those six hours a week really hit me hard) you feel the need to address the fact that you’ve doubled in size and yet are still chomping through the remainder of Christmas chocolate. It’s also difficult to stop drinking during the day under the illusion that ‘it’s ok because it’s Christmas.’
I’m also finding it difficult to stop saying Happy New Year to people. When is it not appropriate to say Happy New Year any more? Getting back to Liverpool and university, I keep bumping in to people that I haven’t seen in a while and Happy New Year just seems to be a friendly thing to say. But now it’s just become a generic greeting in my mind and it takes me a conscious effort not to say it all the time.
So, last semester as Editor of The Looprevil Press, last semester before I have to face that being Editor of The Looprevil Press is not actually a real job, as much as I would like it to be and last semester of having meetings in the pub. Come June, reality will come crashing down around me.
